Socrative in the classroom
Socrative is a Free (at time of posting) system that works acros platforms and mobile devices that allows rapid assessment for learning either as a voting system or by more detailed test reports that can clearly show progress. See the before and after spreadsheets below.
When you register you are given a room number that can be shared with your students.
One of the quick options is to do a multiple choice test that you can ask any question. “What do you need to revise the most, A- Forces, B – Energy ….’ etc. You are instantly shown a bar chart reflecting the classes choices.
By using the short answer setting the students can answer any question set and the results are shown on screen. They then have the option to vote, so after all have chosen they can then evaluate the other answers and choose the one they feel best answers the question.
Choices are shown here
More sophisticated but very easy to set up are quizzes. To see the value that this can add to the lesson see the results from a Forces quiz done at the start of the lesson . Green = correct (or high confidence)
and repeated half an hour later the same quiz
There is very clear evidence of progress, but also those who have yet to grasp the concept can be identified.

Final Assessment of Socrative : Truly superb!!
